Indian Head Massage

In Hindi it is known as Champissage, and is very commonly practised in India and Asiatic countries. Quite often in barbers where it is used to help promote hair growth!

Years ago I had an Indian Head massage and was not impressed at all and then just a while I ago I had one and was completely bowled over by it and the possibilities that I had to go learn it. There are so many different ways of doing Indian Head massage whether it is laying down, sat on a regular chair or in a seated massage chair. You can have it fully clothed or partly clothed, with oil or without oil. Work can be done on the upper back, shoulders, neck, head and face with emphasis on particular areas. Some practitioners will only work on the head and so forth.

An Indian Head Massage may prove beneficial as it:

  • relieves tension, headaches, neck and back pain, alleviates stress and promotes relaxation
  • assists lymphatic drainage, removing toxins and boosting the immune system
  • improves joint mobility, circulation and concentration
  • reaches all energy centres where tension accumulates

Indian Head massage can be relaxing and soothing and is a lovely therapy to experience just as it is. But it can have more far reaching effects from helping with poor sleep patterns to relieving stress to stimulating the scalp and hair growth. It can help with relieving headaches, easing sinus issues and generally helps with invigorating your circulation and lymph drainage which is all part of promoting good health.

When you have an Indian Head massage with me we will go through a consultation first and discuss some objectives. I take an holistic approach to this therapy and a lifetime's experience of different therapies may surface with any suggested homework to help you get the most out of your session. It is important to me that you do not become dependent on having the sessions and so a one-off session may be enough or perhaps a short course will be more appropriate or maybe one every now and then. Any which way, it is something to try and to see how you feel about it.

During a session:

It is a 20 minute session you will know that you have had! You remain dressed and currently no oil is used. Most of the work will be on your head and there will be some pressure point work on your face, and some shoulder work. I'll bring a regular chair with a back on it to give you support but I promise you will not need any more support than that. Afterwards you will need to drink plenty of water to help flush the toxins that will have been shifted. You may feel so relaxed afterwards and you might even fall asleep during but after some water you could either get on with the rest of the day, or if it is late take advantage of the relaxation and get off to bed.

In the future:

I will be training to do seated massage, which will give you a fabulous back massage whilst in a specialist massage chair giving you support without the difficulty of finding a comfortable position when laying down. I will then be extending the Indian Head massage procedure to a 45 minute session to include back work.

I have recently also been lucky enough to have a series of three Indian Head Massages. Not only was the experience calming and relaxing but I have also noticed obvious and positive benefits to my health. Prior to the treatments, my sleep patterns were erratic and I was constantly tired. I noticed a marked improvement after the first treatment that got better and better with the second and third. As well as sleeping much better, I have noticed that my skin and complexion have improved significantly. I am convinced that this is as a direct result of the head massages.
